To Manifest – what is not there
We were intrigued, by the open project competition, to create a landmark in Hønefoss. As it proposed a dilemma of manifesting the regional tourist attraction when it is not present.
Highlighting a large waterfall in the center of the city, which is emptied 2/3 of the year, as the water used in a water powered energy plant.
By polishing the empty Foss, we proposed a reflection of the sky to embody the, not present, waterflow, that would polish the granite stone naturally if we waited thousands of years. Polishing demands air, electricity and water- all present as sustainable and local resources.
A timber frame bridge reconnects the city areas and allows the visitor and everyday flow to be suspended over and by the Foss, where the silent water and the waterfall meets.
